APOP's Friday Facts #1

I thought it would be fun to share some interesting facts about some of the collectibles that everyone (myself included) are so crazy about these days. I always like to know a little of the history that belongs to these pieces as it usually makes them more appealing and intriguing to me. For my first Friday Fact, I chose:

Blue Ball Jars!

http://adkjerseygirl.wordpress.com/

I can't help but love these jars in the perfect shade of blue. When the sun hits them just right they sparkle.

In the early 1880's the Ball Brothers built a fruit-jar empire. They took over several smaller jar companies and mass produced their jars across the country.

The most common Ball jars known are PERFECT MASON, IDEAL, SURE SEAL, IMPROVED & SPECIAL. But there are countless versions out there.
These jars also contain various logos that can help determine their age.

Ball jars come in colors that range from standard clear, aquamarine, and green to less-common amber.
Amber jars (pictured above) were made to keep fruit from turning brown. They were meant to keep out harmful effects of light rays. However, their color made it harder to see what fruit was inside the jar, therefore they were not as popular.
Since fewer were made in amber, olive green and cornflower blue they are sought after today by Ball jar collectors.

Square jars were made so homemakers could stack jars closer together, thus taking up less space in kitchens or cellars. Once again less were made of this jar, so they are worth more to collectors.

Now this milk glass Ball jar has to be my all time favorite. These are very rare and so pretty.

Today these blue jars aren't used so much for canning, but as
vases for the flower of your choice
or
as candle hurricanes
or
fill with sand and add some pretty seashells!

The ideas are endless....

 Have a wonderful weekend!

Vintage Bluebird...

Happy Blue Monday...

I am currently working on several pieces and on my list before summer is over is a couple more Vintage Bluebirds!
I better hurry!!!

One of the "Bluebirds" isn't even Blue!

Hmmm....I wonder what color it'll be?

~

Notice anything different about my blog?

The cutest aqua and pink polka dot background, maybe
or
the cutest little signature at the end of my posts?

Both are correct! You guessed it, Keren from
came to the rescue again and made my little blog dreams come true:)

She really knows how to make it all come together beautifully!
Thanks Keren

*Ruby Jean* Feature

One of my "Vintage Pink Elly's" has made it's way to a wonderful home. The home of Ruby Jeans Angelina. She wrote up a lovely post about her new pink elly, if you haven't read it yet, you can find it here.

I have a weakness for making sad little eyes, yet she is the happiest pink elly ever!

I like to think these are vintage circus elly's. These elly's were the heart of the circus and treated like royalty.

Thank you for visiting and please come again.

♥Shabby Blogs Feature♥

I love this piece that I had the honor of making for Megan of Shabby Blogs. She is one of the nicest, sweetest ladies out there.

A girly gator for Megan's precious girly girl Ally.

When you think alligator, do you think fluffy, pink and sparkly?

I do now!!!

A Pinch of Whim...sy.

Megan featured me on her wonderful blog  Shabby Blogs, which is probably one of the first blogs I came across when I still wasn't even 100% sure what a blog was. So thank you Megan, I appreciate it so much!

Oops, I said "blog" 4 times in one sentence:)

Blue berries, blue flowers...

Blue Monday!
I'm so excited to partake in Ruby Jeans "My Blue Monday" linky party. Awhile back I posted that I would share with you all my recipe for "Michelle's Favorite Dessert". Yesterday was my birthday and that means that I'm gonna have some of my favorite dessert! Over the years we've topped off the dessert with different berries, but my favorite one to use is BLUE berries. So this works out perfectly to share for "My Blue Monday". This is a very easy dessert to make and a perfect one for summer.
Have fun and enjoy!

Hubby made my dessert this year♥!♥!
 How sweet is that?

One of my favorite flowers too, this hydrangea did so well this year.

"Michelle's Favorite Dessert" Recipe:

Will Need:

1 cup flour
½ cup soft butter
2 Tbsp sugar
1 cup chopped walnuts
8 oz cream cheese - soft
1 cup powdered sugar
1 container cool whip
2 small pkg instant vanilla pudding
2 cup milk

To Prepare:

1. Mix together - flour, soft butter, sugar and chopped walnuts. Press into 9 x 13 cake pan. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes. Let cool.

2. Beat together - soft cream cheese, powdered sugar and 1 cup cool whip. Then spread on crust.

3. Mix the instant pudding and milk together, then pour over cheese mixture. Let pudding set before     topping with remaining cool whip.

4. You can then top final finish with berry of your choice.  ♥Blueberries♥

"Fly, little birdie"

I've been inspired lately by mixed media art. My favorite medium to work with is Paperclay, but I do love to mix mediums and play with layers too. I've been having a lot of fun making little tutu's and accessories to go along with my pieces.
This little girl is an example of that. I added a little sparkle to her hair bow, vintage mica glitter (heart rating:♥♥♥♥♥ 5 hearts!) to her bodice and a fun little black fluffy tutu.

To view on ebay, click picture.
Strawberry Pink hair + black tutu = Whimsy Delight!
